Just curious why you are considering vertical tillage versus strip till. I'm not saying you are thinking wrong, just trying to consider different thoughts as I think a lot of us are on the edge of trying something different. Wouldn't it stand to reason that a strip made in the fall would be warmer and drier in the spring than some coulter slots would do? If you have tight wet soils I think that would be better. Strips aren't the answer if you drill beans but if my 30" outyield my drilled like last year I will probably abandon drilling and save seed cost and really consider strips for a 30" corn/soybean or c/c sytem. It doesn't seem like the vertical tools justify their pricetag for what they do but I'm eager to learn so correct me if there is something I'm not considering.
