Some times I have the same problems on my Kinze. I planted 200 acres and never threw a chain .Or had stalks plug my seed tubes. The last farm I did some times I could make it 100 yards without throwing a chain. 1/2 the drive chains are new this year but new vs old did not matter. I never had any trouble until last year. I still don't know what the difference is but I am thinking your idea about running a chain or cable in front of the row units sounds good!
The only good thing about getting out of the cab every few feet is I have to throw fewer bags of beans per day! LOL
