Michigan - Saginaw County | Let this old bird also cast the vote for an insulated "shop" with heated floors and a temporary interior for now. (screw it together so you can salvage the lumber easily) Use a high efficiency water heater for heat. Window air conditioners for summer. Fans overhead to push air around.
The "house" can come later and can be built over a 4 or 5 year span from cash in hand, friends and family labor, and sweat equity.
In the end you have a new home for way less money as having a house built up front with a big mortgage.
And there is that nice heated shop for winter wrenching that comes for free compared to the big house right now method.
We did build the-last-house by the cash in hand method over a 4 year span.
We have heated that two story home with radiant floors from a single 70 gallon hot water heater for the past 17 years. Had I had it built with a mortgage I would still have 13 years of payments to go. |
