| McDonald gave a very good overview of the particular fund that was mentioned and sounds some shenanigans being played. Probably not a very good investment, long time frame or not. If I were to start up a REIT where the primary asset was farmland, in an ideal world with sufficient cash to invest, I would purchase as an example, say 160 acres every month for 30 years. Never sell any, just buy and hold. Greatly minimizes taxes. Pay out rental income to shareholders as a dividend, minus a small,I repeat small, management fee. That's the way I envision a properly managed fund investing in farmland to be run. Unfortunately, such a fund probably doesn't exist, or at least I'm not aware of one. | |
