North Central Illinois | It simply amazes me that people are pining for the days of $2.50 corn! Who would have thought farmers would be happier with $2.50 corn than with $7 corn? I agree there needs to be a happy medium but come on guys, if you haven't made good money the past seven years there is no hope for you. Somehow guys have gotten it in their head that when prices rose by over $5 a bushel the price of inputs and land costs should have remained the same. Get real! Not saying $15,000 land and $500 rents are justified, but to think land would stay at $3000 and rents would remain in the $200 to $300 range with $7 to $8 corn is completely unrealistic. I will concede that if you don't have much paid for land and were paying a lot of high cash rent it was probably pretty tough going. | |
