Subject: Re: Insulating heated floor

Homestead Montana
We are in the process of building a new shop. We needed a footing of sorts so we decided to use the insulated wall forms went down 4 feet with those and then went out 2 feet with 2 inch Styrofoam. Our thought is if you want to keep your shop at say 50 degrees and the ground temp with be between 55 and 60 degrees why would you want to insulate your floor against that? Now if you were building a house and want the house 70 degrees then no question insulate the heck out of the slab. We will find out what the temp of the ground will be as we put in a small plastic pipe down 4 feet so we can run a thermometer down to check the temp.
