Subject: RE: Stumps and logs buried - how long do they "last"

NW Iowa
The big trees along the creek on my farm were cut down in 1980. What did not burn, mainly the stumps was buried. I farmed that land for awhile, then seeded it down to CRP buffer strip 27 years ago. Now the holes in the CRP where the stumps were buried are sinking and in the past few years I have been filling them and I will probably be topping them off for the rest of my life. One of the holes hidden in tall brome grass took me by surprise when I was slowly riding a four wheeler spot spraying weeds. I wasn’t looking ahead as I drove and in a split second I was laying in this deep depression with the four wheeler laying upside down on top of me. I got out from under it unscathed but it woke me up for sure.
