Corn relies on respiration during the night time to recoup from warm daytime temperatures, I suspect you are not cooling enough during the night to allow the corn plant to rest. We are similar to you guys , only a few hundred miles north but we farm two small river bottoms , the front one is surrounded by a bluff and tall trees on river side , back one has a slope , rise , to level ground , back bottom will out yield front one by 30 bushels . Front one cannot cool because heat is trapped , and grain fill is excellerated. Prehaps the lower end is hotter , Prehaps if flood irrigated, from one end , that water acts to cool the crop as it travels lower, it looses its cooling capacity. Just a guess on my part , guaranteed 200 bushels is pretty good, wish we had irrigation.
