SC KS | My grandpa wasn't very mechanical. My Dad is. He came to age during the muscle car era, became an ag engineer, and pipe line welded from texas to Nebraska in the winters during the 80s.
I'm probably more intimidated by major issues with unsure experience than my Dad, but certified in HS for out of position welding so I could pay for college with a job better than mcdonald's. First vehicle I had was a square body out of a junk yard with a locked up 350. It now has a 454, 700R4, and balebed. I own older equipment because I personally can work on it, and if I had time I'd tare some of it down and make it look like a minnesota farmer owned it.
My friends and many young local guys would rather stand behind the mechanic or dad and watch him work than try it themselves. Is this a dieing skill(s) to weld, engineer, and fix the more complicated issues in ag?
