 Yes it would be interesting to core them higher soils in the fence line and test the ratios of clay, silt and sand particles. If there is more of the silt and sand particles in the fence line than clay particles it could be a indication of wind erosion.



Of course there's "some" erosion. Those fence lines and such catch far more than their equal area of dirt though. Meaning that a 10' wide fence line bordering a quarter section is catching a portion of the dirt from the whole 150+ acres. Also the organic matter is going to be sky high from an eternity of notill and no harvest in the fence line. I'm sure some of the fence lines are unbroken virgin sod. That and eons of tillage tools throwing a bit of dirt and fodder into them.
