Are your well controls is your basement or in a well house? I’d put valves close to the controls....pressure tank. I’d have each hydrant on its own line, with a shut off in basement or well house. Yes, use ball valves. Place where I calve has spinning gate valves, I cringe every time I spin them. Putting in a larger line will help only if it’s not any bigger than the line that feeds it. If your filling water tanks for spraying, I’d go as big as possible.

I’m a big fan of directional boring, it’ll keep your place from getting all torn up with settling and soft spots. Every line I’ve put in the last 10 years has been bored.
