I worked for a well guy for 13 winters. Rule of thumb was never put a hydrant in line from the well to the house. If you have troubles with the hydrant leaking then your well is down till you get it fixed. Not code to have a hydrant by the well. Best to come from the house to where you want hydrants that way if ever any problems you can shut it off and not disrupt your water to the house. 1 inch hd160 black plastic at least with stainless barbed fittings. Brass was always the go too but as prior post said brass isn’t very tough anymore. Double hose clamp all fittings. Have never had problem with leaks.
