Wisconsin | 1" should be plenty. You won't notice a difference with 1 1/4" unless you go with a way bigger hydrant than the standard 3/4" which has a much smaller valve. You could post your pump model, hp, depth of water etc. but almost certainly won't make a difference above 1" with a 3/4" hydrant.
I'd prefer to put the tee right at the pitless adapter on the well. You can put an underground valve there if you want, or a pit with several valves, or take your chances with the hydrants, maybe buy one extra to keep for emergency spares, or the rebuild kit before you need it on a Friday night.
Depending on your soils, and depth you want to go, a pressure washer works nice for jetting a narrow trench for water lines. It will settle, but it's so narrow that it's not as big a mess like a wider trench. | |
