Wisconsin		Organic matter is carbon, carbon makes carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide in water is acid. Organic matter is constantly making acid as it decomposes so it will tend to make a soil acid if there is no alkali in the soil. Acid rain will also make a soil acid.
