My family farm is in central Minnesota, just north of Albert Lea, MN, in a calcareous soil belt, which when looking at soil tests over the last forty-plus years. I've watched this level become depleted from 8,000 to 10,000 lbs. per acre down to 3,000 to 4,000 lbs. per acre. This may or may not be a big deal, but this is in deep black soils, which takes even longer to fix. What took forty years to erode will take as long, if not longer, versus light soils like sand. |
