SE Nebraska, Near Misery and Cans Ass!

lawfarms - 2/8/2021 23:35 I don’t believe lime can be depreciated on taxes can it? Ok 10 years ago I applied lime. Well use $25/ton applied per acre I don’t need lime yet. So maybe at 15 years. $25x2ton /15 years is $3.34 an acre per year cost. If stretched over 20 years $2.50/acre It really doesn’t matter as it’s a partial bushel cost a year. Time is prob better spent doing something with the kids or wife then over analyzing how to expense the lime crops Vrs crop. There’s just not enough money involved to get excited.

Brad, You know my area pretty well. After 25 years of 2.5 acre grids on a corn soy rotation, it seems to take 1000# of 50% cec line an acre a year on a farm average. That said some areas take a lot more ans some a lot less. I've got a farm west of Falls City that I call a lime hole as I've never got it where I want it. Requirements seem to be slowing down on my other stuff but no where near as low as what you say. Do you routinely apply pell lime?
