Insurance with harvest price option figured out something like this for us in 2012. Unless you paid way to much for land you couldn't even lose money if you took out crop insurance. No way I can do that now. Need good crop to pay the bills.


Corn havest price in 2012 was 7.50/bu. 180aphx$7.50x80% coverage=$1,080 guarentee. We were fortunate in 2012 with good enough yields we didn't collect any insurance.
Soybeans harvest price in 2012 $15.39/bux50aphx80% coverage=$615 guarentee. Had good beans in 2012 didn't collect on them either.
