Subject: RE: What was your first farm????

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
220 acres of dryland ground and 130 gravity irrigated ground. First irrigated ground we ever farmed. That was a learning curve! Decent ground over all. Landlord wasn’t getting along with previous renters so she gave me a try. She knew my parents some. I was 24 and getting married that fall.
Dryland ground needed some terrace work. Fixed them up some then we went notill and I’m still farming the same terraces but with less erosion their working ok.
Original landlord passed away 20 years ago and have been renting it from her daughter who is now up in her 90’s. Been farming it for 37 years. Hope to buy it someday. We’ve discussed it in the past but capital gains was going to eat her up so she needs to pass it to her kids first. (Who are also retired).
It’s the only ground I still rent on shares. Always has been a good relationship.
