NC Kansas | One of dad's landlords had a tract in CRP that came out in '06. Dad had previously farmed it 10 years prior but I was back in the area working after college and he let me have this field. 115 acres in 4 fields. Had to pull a few cedar trees up, we dumped some cows in there the fall it came out to graze what they could. Burned it down a couple times with Round up in the spring and no-tilled beans. Rained a lot that summer and they made 43 if I recall. This is back when 43bu here was considered "good" beans, they were around $10, all you needed was round-up. Think I spread a little 11-52-0 ahead of planting. Farmin' was easy!
Just last year I bought my first 80 from my grandmothers estate. It's been in the family a long time and dad says before his time they rented it out as it was too far from home. It's 3.5 miles from the homesite.
