You are making my point for me
As I interpreted it, your “point” was that by having an occupation in common with somebody, I would be more likely to favor them in decision making. Which, you claimed, is why police do favors for one another.
This is false. My decision to let somebody hunt or fish on my land varies from “if the bank says their lease check will clear” to “The venison summer sausage they give me is good.” This decision has never involved their occupation.
Your statement that “it’s human nature to let your coworkers get away with more” is simply defending the corruption that is endemic in so many police forces today. I work in a heavily regulated business that will terminate people at even a hint of illegal behavior. Nobody “covers” for anybody because it means jail time. And those people WILL NOT be working in the industry again. For some reason, police, which comically say they are “held to a higher standard”, can do illegal things over and over and over and either not get caught, or simply move departments. Meanwhile our tax dollars pay their settlements.
