Rebuilding lots of Deere planters - most of them if not all over 12-15 years old will
have dry bearings. I take them out and you can use them for rattles. They still turn
and seem tight but need grease. In this case what your doing with the needle
makes sense. I replace them because one time I ran into a huge stock of bearings
and its easier then greasing them. If I didn't have this stock I wouldn't be afraid
of grease them.
