Stretching out the immunity process by shelter in place is not without problems.

No easy fixes.

The big issue is how soon do we move forward? If we move too quickly we basically have wasted most benefit of the shelter in place time already spent. Yet the longer we wait the longer the curve is spread out and the longer period of time the vulnerable have to be exposed to catching it before herd immunity is reached.

John, I really appreciate your level headed look at this. You are correct that there are not easy answers. One thing that the curve flattening has gained us is that hospitals have had more time to prepare and to get more supplies. The hospitals in Sioux Falls have mostly emptied out to get ready for this. The national guard is even ready to make more hospital space. I do not know if they are thinking of letting it spread, but at least they are ready if it does. Sioux Falls is at the junction of 2 interstates, so it could grow here whether we want it to or not.
