Why I’m in the camp we can’t stop this until it runs it’s course which I truly hate I still know this is a very serious deal. Everyone keeps worrying about the elderly and the weak but let’s face it. Young strong people are getting this and dying whether we want to believe it or not. My biggest fear now is possibly life saving drugs being locked up and controlled by the fib instead of my dr. Sadly it seems with this virus if it gets at foothold odds are your gonna die. From what I’m hearing and seeing these drugs show great promise but need given early.
They won’t administer unconventional virus treatment unless they specifically test positive for covid 19. That’s why they are rat holing drugs that help with the inflammation & other symptoms. Get the testing up to speed & the treatment will be up to speed, until then it’s a dumpster fire. Ie they can’t prescribe treatment to everyone with a cough & chest pains, not enough supply pipeline.
It’s really no different than pharmacies/hospital's running out of tami-flu when they get a local epidemic of influenza. They prescribe it without getting a positive test for influenza because they assume that’s what the patient needs or they want to be proactive as it spreads. Nothing wrong with that approach but this isn’t regular influenza & they aren’t prescribing something as common as tamiflu.
Wife=pharmacist. Yes they are holding supply of certain drugs because a) people need these drugs for what they were actually synthesized for b) they can’t get replacement inventory in a timely fashion. They will run out if they don’t strictly manage their inventory in conjunction with the local healthcare system’s needs.
And it’s not like a pharmacy can just hand out non OTC drugs. Pandemic is difficult for everyone to manage.
