Texas, the really flat part | The attitude some of you guys exhibit remind me of a meeting I attended years ago concerning the formation of boll weevil eradication zones in Texas. The weevil had finally made it onto the high plains and had become a serious pest. Most farmers felt that the eradication zones were a good idea if we wanted to continue growing cotton.....but there was a vocal minority that bitched about government overreaching, waste, the $12 per planted acre cost, allowing strangers access to check traps on their property and they simply didn’t want anyone telling them what to do. The vote favoring the program was passed, the eradication worked much better that we dared hope, but that meeting was a real eye opener for me as to how reactionary some folks are. |
