Bring it on.

Have a handful of friends that come down the same time each year, almost every year, here now. Go on a morning dive along the coast with them then in the afternoon do a pud dive with my wife usually on the house reef (Small Wall or Black Durgon reef). She likes macro photography and moves along the reef at a snails pace looking for tiny things. She is a great diver with over a couple thousand dives, but she has learned to relax. Me, I still go at it pretty hard.

I like both styles of diving.

In the morning we do a lot of drift dives starting at one dive site and exiting at another. Salt Pier later this morning.

Since losing weight, when it is slow here at the Inn, I will go out on the house reef and do what I refer to as an "exercise" dive. Drop down to 80-100 feet, swim nearly as hard as I can for minimum 5 minutes up to 10 minutes till I am huffing and puffing and can hardly get enough air, then back off relax and do the rest of the dive leisurely at 30-50 feet. Gets my heart rate and breathing up, gives me some good exercise, and if I am going to have a heart attack it only takes a minute or two to drown so I want to get it over with quick. Kind of like running a 200 yard dash on land. Breathing 32% Nitrox gets me up to about 1.4 O2 equivelant so I get some hyperbaric oxygen therapy, just in case some cancer cells are lurking around my body (lot of recent research on hyperbaric oxygen and ketosis on improving cancer treatment outcomes - many cancers thrive in anoxic enviromments, oxygenation weakens/kills them). Just kidding on the therapy, but who knows? Anyway I get my exercise. No way could I have done that a little over a year ago at that level of intensity when I was 100 pounds heavier. Probably would have had a heart attack and for sure would have had a hypoglycemic event because of being on insulin therapy.

Have I mentioned changing diet gave me my life back?

John
