NW Iowa | The thing we often see in a rural area is that if an employee is good, reliable and works well with people, sooner or later they realize they can make more money by operating their own business instead of working for someone else. In our area we have seen a few John Deere mechanics leave and start their own on farm repair shops. I used to think the hourly rate at dealerships reaching $125/hour was because they had to pay their mechanics so well.....not even close. Many of them are making $15-$18 per hour. It is a win win for everyone when they leave to start their own shop and charge $60/hour. | |
