They put a 62% tariff on pork. Also 20% of chinas hogs is more than the rest of the worlds hogs. Sure we could increase domestic hog production but we only have so much slaughter capacity, adding more would take several years. If you started the process to build another sow farm today, it would be 2-3 years before the first pig hits the slaughter plant. So it’s not going to happen this summer. All we really can do for the most part is increase slaughter weights.
