Subject: RE: berkshire hogs

Northern New York
I can't speak for your area but here in the East there can be a rather large premium for Berkshire pork. And there needs to be. The meat quality is second to none, but Berkshires bring a whole new level of challenges to pork production.

As my vet tells me ( and she works for a large swine practice ), Berkshires have the highest meat quality, there is a reason they are not raised commercially.

I currently run 100 Berkshire sows farrow to finish so I do have a little experience with the breed. Made the switch 6 years ago from commercial sows.
