Southeast WI | Hi Pat. Where I run my trial I broadcast at least removal rate of K (field is opt for K) and it's EH for P so that is not applied and it would not be a limiting factor anyway. Also supply adequate S across the field. Then at this point it's left to see if "starter" causes a yield increase. Your point with accidental trial is valid IF you are running on the edge of adequate fertility. Most of my ground is not, however, many of my clients rent and all we can afford to do is put most of removal out with broadcast and JUST meet needs with starter. With this approach we do not see visual defic symptoms. A few clients do not have starter and low fields, even with higher broadcast rates, with no starter, show K defic for a period of each season. So starter there would likely give a much greater return. | |
