I would say most of us are selling one crop during a calendar year so why wouldn't we be evaluating it against all contracts in that calendar year? Currently I can get 7 more cents for new crop than I can for storing grain for 9 months to get me to july. So without bins I can get 7 more cents for this calendar years crop correct? If you roll it than you are delaying calendar years, so either are selling two crops in one or missing out on selling the carry until new crop. Just a different way of looking at things that most won't agree with but the fact is other than basis I can sell my new crop for more than old and not have all the expenses of a bin.
