I thnk IN555 is trying to compare 2 different crop years to get down to 15 cents carry. Almost every year you can get 25 cents or better going from Dec. to July. If you take out a CCC loan on the grain you have a lot cheaper interest. My corn is going into a bin even if I am not going to sell the carry because the drying charges are a lot higher in town then having your own dryer so the savings in drying costs more then pay the handling charges of going into and out of the bins. There is basically no extra handling charges if you are drying your own corn and going into and out of a bin anyway. Add the basis improvement and you are gaining a lot more then the 25 cents. We also have access to a lot of markets that pay better when we have time to haul the grain further. I do consider our trucking costs when deciding where to sell but there is no way we could haul the corn 25 to 70 miles during harvest to get the best markets.
