West Central Indiana | I have a standard JD 612 corn head. Most falls I pull our turbo till across a field or two with the rows. I personally don't like to do this because some of my farms are rolling enough that I think it causes a little more erosion come spring. Secondly if it gets windy the stalks tend to blow. 3rd if its a low lying area where a creek gets out the trash moves with the water more.
However, one of my highest yielding soybean fields this past fall was turbo tilled the fall of 2017. I do think the bean head does a better job of getting low lying pods.
In the fall I look behind the turbo till and it doesn't look like it's doing anything. Come spring I think the ground usually looks a little dryer to plant into and the residue broke down more. My head is getting some age on it.....I think different stalk rolls might be the way to go (after reading some of these post) cause it would be cheaper that putting someone in a tractor and turbo till.
