Not too many years ago, (pre - 1995) corn stalks broke down much quicker than the GMO stalks of today. Whether you chopped them or not, they still broke down way faster back then.

Looks like NGMO corn is more friendly to soil livestock, when it comes to residue breakdown than BT. Plus @ less cost vs what folks are spending today to try and mimic nature with BT corn when it comes to residue breakdown performance.

Xtra seed cost plus added cost to try and breakdown BT residue Vs Ngmo = more bu needed to justify xtra cost of BT seed corn and equipment.

Don't know if any research has been done on this, but would like to see the results of what the effect is on the following crop when planted after NGMO corn and BT corn.

Coup, that would be interesting to compare...or is it today's higher yielding corn on average has better plant health?

Higher yielding corn is found in NGMO . My guess its the BT affecting corn residue breakdown vs better plant health. Harvest 20 % NGMO corn that stalks are green enough would make good silage. , six weeks after harvest stalks turn to nothing when ground is ripped.
