Beresford, SD | True. 1000 pounders on stalks, my neighbor.....100% of thier feed is in the bunk. I plan on doing the same next winter. The stalk field becomes a giant bedded yard that needs no cleaning. Never been on hwy 12 and 20 in the winter, it opened my eyes and confirmed my thoughts on how to do things easier, cheaper and better. A twist on what is done in your country, My neighbor gets a lot of ideas as he's spent many years on the roads pulling a bull rack. Pull up google earth, the big confinement out by Bartlett, NE (the old Foxley yard) has put fence line bunks on every pivot corner. Turn a set of weaned calves out and feed'em in bunks, let them bed and spread manure themselves. Back grounding in total "tight" confinement........someone is gonna do it cheaper.
