The moisture factor is a major Downfall to that system as you go east. I’ve seen guys actually bedding calves on stalks on twitter. Also might need to really plan out where you put bunks and feed. I’ve seen lots of sunken, stuck trucks and tractors when the frost comes out!
We have a good jag of cows out on stalks here, they’ve done fairly well for our wet fall/winter. However our fall pairs on stalks trying to get bred have definitely needed more feed than normal to maintain and their calves are ugly.
Have some bred heifers on cover crops doing well, but not as well as hoped. (We are a gator and bucket operation when it comes to supplements too). |
