South Central MN | Yep, especially since many lock washers are used incorrectly. Many people will place a flat washer against the equipment, then a split lock washer, then the nut. Split locks gain their locking ability by digging into the surface of the equipment, so placing a flat washer in the way completely negates the effect of the split washer. Learned this from a seminar a guy taught where I used to work. He was involved in writing sae standards and such for threaded fasteners. Bellville washers or lock nuts are much more reliable when used correctly. | |
