I could do the math myself but I often rely on the feeding values the University of Missouri computes for gain. They use bean meal as the value for protein and corns net energy of gain for a energy value of all feed stuffs. Right now their sytem uses $3.60 corn and $315.50 sbm. What I’m seeing is whole beans are worth $285.62, ddg $226.24, and corn gluten $200.28. Anything you can buy for less than that is profit. Grain Processing Corp said we could contract for 12 months at $145 gluten, so that’s $55 a ton profit. I’m seeing ddgs listed on their site by sellers for $150 so that’s $75 a ton. Doing a little reverse math and an average benefit of ddgs and gluten of $65 a ton, a ton of whole beans would need to be $220.62. That’s $6.62 beans. All I raise in Non GMO beans with a premium, but I don’t think I will be getting any neighbors to sell me any gmo beans for my steers at that price. I guess we will take the $30 ton hike in gluten and keep feeding it.
