Northeast Iowa
We fed them raw and roasted when we used to store beans on the farm until the corn-on-corn rotation took over. The roasted beans went into hog rations. The raw beans went to bred heifers about 60 days prior to calving. That was about 2-3 lbs per head per day. Much higher than that caused birthweight increases. Seems like it was the University of Missouri that did a lot of studies with it. A quick check shows the University of Illinois was discussing it in 2001, so you're not as crazy as you think. I had 2002-2006 in my mind.
