Alton, Ia | My vote for worst upgrade is for 78C2. Went from a 47 to 87. It's a rocky, sandy clay soil that almost all of it in my section is in CRP or just plain grass and has been for 50 years. In a wet year like 2016 it drowns out from water seeping out the hill, and now this year it's burning up. I'll trade that 87 soil for any >75 CSR soil out there.
But in a perfect year it grows nice corn. One year out of 10. I have yield history that will show this soil is not 87% of my CSR2=100 310 and 810 soils.
The biggest deal with CSR2 is they removed the weather factor from the soil. So if you can control the weather, and mainly the precip, the higher CSR2 soils will yield better. So all we have to do is pick up that soil and move it to a part of the state where it rains. No problem.
It's kinda like saying that girl over there is pretty, except for her face. | |
