I can assure you there's nobody here in NE South Dakota who's grazing year round year after year. That being said right now our cows are all out on stalks, but they're being fed most of what they're eating. Even the deer would die if they didn't have corn piles and hay stacks to chew on. There are a number of people who sold their cowherds and try to buy yearlings in the spring but light calves up here are sky high. It's possible to keep your costs low and start up a tractor. You can bale a lot of bales on a tank full of fuel.
