ND | The first thing I think of when I hear about people in the north looking to graze for long periods of the year is what happens when something goes wrong. I prefer to learn from the past and anyone who has studied the past knows that many cattle have died because hay was not put up in enough quantities, if at all. I'm not saying these systems can't work. My problem is when you are in an area where the growing season is 5 months long at best you better have a backup plan. Some winters are open and grazing will work great, others not so much. We don't put up hay and other feed just because we are too lazy to put more effort into grazing. | |
