Chilliwack, British Columbia | We built 7 yrs ago, dbl 10 parallel, full automation for the time. Manure channel, scrapers + pump, 145 free stalls plus boxstall space, 170' six row barn, used 4000G milk tank, including all utilities (power, water, site prep etc) came in right at $1 million. Did very little ourselves, had to run new power as old service was not up to par, ran new water line from road (we are on city water). I am sure there are ways to do it cheaper, but I don't think we did much "extravagent", other than the parlour. I feel that is where you want to spend the $$$$, because that is where the $$$$ is made. Also, a convenient vet room close to boxstalls is very important. Other questions ask away.
This is a very exciting time, also very stressful but very rewarding!!
