SW MN | I gave up a mechanical engineering job to move back and farm- a small farm. I am very sure I will never have as much money on my little farm (180 acres) and hog building as I would have if I had stayed in the engineering field.
I drive 10+ year old vehicles, my equipment line up would be the envy of the neighborhood- if it was 1983.
Just the other day I had a conversation with someone who asked how I was doing. I said " I don't have to worry about my next meal, my kids are healthy and get to go to a very good school, I have a beautiful wife and I look forward to my work every day. How can it get any better?"
I am starting to come to the conclusion that beyond necessities, more $$ is just for more toys- which will not guarantee happiness.
If you enjoy milking and it can provide enough income for the basics, go for it. I would rather work for the bank for 30years loving what I do instead of making more money working for some company elsewhere and not enjoying it. | |
