I'm not quite sure how you make a no-till soil dead, unless you fumigate it every week.  Life is pervasive.  The only thing damaging soil life is tillage and lack of mulch on top.

I'm really tired of these companies selling magic potions to 'stimulate' your soil's biology.  It's about as effective as chanting around the couldron during a full moon, or sticking pins in a voodoo doll.
