See David Lobb's work (Lobb's homepage ). In addition to the water moving soil down-slope, the tillage implements actually drag as much or more down-slope themselves. The tonnage of soil moving down-slope with each tillage pass is huge. Erosion is happening twice as fast as anyone previously thought.
