East Central Ia
A 3pt backhoe works fine on a budget... but it is much slower and harder to grade with. Backhoes and excavators use two different hydraulic pumps for simultaneously moving cylinders... like raising the boom and curling the stick to cut a grade. On the 3pt woods hoe i had things would slow or speed up as you changed flow to each cylinder.

But i ran mine off the tractor... a pto pump might have cured this.

You will want a thumb if you need to handle rocks... getting into that would make me lean hard towards a backhoe or excavator.

Like i said... it works, but it will slow you down. I sold mine and bought a 19k lbs midi excavator its 100 times better and faster. We had a project where i needed to dig up a lot of tile risers... i knew the 3pt hoe wasnt gonna cut it for that.
