NW Central Ohio
...I have a bit of another take on the situation. My dad was basically retired and I was doing the farming..but I was still using quite a bit of his equipment while paying for it. He wanted to fix a cable on the heater control for the combine one night...and I told him to forget about it, I would get it in the morning. He insisted, and I told him at least 3 more times to leave it alone. Short of tying him to his Lazy Boy...there wasn't any changing his mind, and off he went to get the combine. Now realize it's dark...after 9 PM, he has to drive a half mile up to a riverbottom and get the combine, and he shouldn't be running things up the road without an escort anyways. So I ignored him...and finished unloading the truck I was working on and went up to the shop. As I heard him tearing down the road toward the shop...I stepped outside to watch him pull in.....that's when my heart sank. When I parked the combine..it had a partial load of corn still in the bin...and since you shouldn't fold a Gleaner's auger with corn in it...I had left it out. He had crawled into the combine...didn't pay attention to the auger being out...and drove it home, hitting at least 2 trees on the way. The auger was bent at the joint down by the grain tank and part of the tank was crumpled. I had just rebuilt the entire bottom end of the auger...and was really proud of the work I had done. I had to rebuild the grain tank auger..the bottom swivel of the unloading tube..straighten out the bottom of the grain tank, and eventually because the tin was creased I had to replace the bottom of the grain tank because it wore out on the bottom of the tank. He never apologized.......
