W.C. Mo. | I am on the Missouri side near a smaller university. For 25 years I had a hog operation in addition to cattle and row crops. I tried to always have part time help from the uni to help do most everything around the farm. I enjoyed the different students and probably learned as much from them as they did from me. Some only helped a semester and others 3+ years. As far as connecting to farmers, I would visit with Profs, local coops, feed elevators, and help wanted ads. I even found one that advertised in the local paper. If you find somebody, offer to work a part day before talking wages--prove yourself, make a first good impression. I was always impressed by ones who wanted a job--not ones who wanted money. And before I get flamed, work hard, prove yourself, but don't let people take advantage of you. Good luck--your kind are getting harder to find. | |
