Subject: RE: Kansas State University: trying to work for a farmer in college?

Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA
I got a harvest job with a farmer north of Manhattan one year by replying to an ad in the Collegian. I was kind of just an extra guy to run the extra combine or do some hauling whenever I was available to do so. I really enjoyed the time I worked there. It was the lowest wage I've ever earned. There are so many qualified farm kids at KSU that the farmers near there know they don't necessarily have to pay a lot to get good part time help.

The next two years I helped a custom harvester part time in the fall. Wages were a little better, and the equipment was newer, but the hours were longer depending on what was going on. I had a 21 hour day on my time sheet once.
