Subject: RE: Modular Homes

We considered a modular and toured a local plant and were very impressed. Savings come from bulk materials purchases, controlled envirnoment, and construction efficiency. We were told the modular had something like 25% more framing material than a stick built so it would stand up to the trip down the road. I'm certain there are good and not so good modular companies. We didn't buy a modular but a coworker bought the brand we toured and had problems, not with the home but with the set up. In their area private contractors rather than factory crews do the setup. My parents have a different brand modular set up by a contractor and have made out well with everthing but the HVAC which was done by a local HVAC contractor hired by the gc. I'd research the modular builder and the setup crew and ask for references just like I would if I was hiring a builder to build a stick built home.
